JVC HR-S9800U Super VHS ET Video Cassette Recorder ( Professional VCR ).

This is what i have observed:
This VCR doesnt power on from a wall outlet after the first time testing it.
I have hooked the VCR up to a Variac and after moving the knob bavk and forth from 40 to 70 volts I noticed the "Auto" flashing on the front panel. This usually starts flashing around the 40 volt mark.
I leave it on 40 volts for a few hours then slowly raise the voltage over time until 120 volts and it works. Everything powers on and tape can be put in and played.
Once I remove the VCR from the variac and let it sit(long enough for the capacitors to drain) and plug it into the wall outlet it doesnt power on.
There is a capacitor at the input AC voltage that makes a humming sound if you dont follow the steps i previously mentioned.
I believe this capacitor is bad and needs to be replaced.
I have the knowledge and know how (EET Degree) to change the capacitors but unfortunately I do not have the time.
This item is being sold as is and no further testing has been done.
Please note my findings and someone elses findings may be a little different.
Also note, I have not tried to fix this item and the only thing that has been removed was the cover to observe the inner components. I also found that the resistor in series with the capacitor has a variable voltage across it when plugged into the wall.
I am also using a OHMITE VT model VT02f variac.
