This is an original Ernest Geissendorfer etching that is pencil signed below image, " Rothenburg Tauber"  and, "Original Radierung" (original etching)....followed by his signature. This print paper measures 13 3/4" x 10 1/2". The plate impression measures 9" x 6 1/2". This monocolor etching is rich in detail and shows the famous castle gate in the city of Rothenburg, Germany. The artist, Ernest Geissendorfer (1908-1993) studied art in Nuremberg (1923-1927) where he mastered the art of etching. He took over his parents art Gallery in Rothenburg at an early age and even had a art gallery in the United States pre-WWII. Rothenburg is situated in Bavaria on the Tauber River and is virtually unchanged since the Middle Ages. Medieval tower and walls of defense still stand in the city. Geissendorfer's early etching before WWII were uncolored. Later he added color. In 1973 he recieved a medal for his dedicated service to the town of Rothenburg. During WWII he negotiated with American troops to save Rothenburg from destruction as well. Rothenburg is one of Germany's most picturesque places. This print is in good order, clean and white and no damage as shown. It is not dated.   My photos are of the actual item you are getting.
