Mohamed Salah has revealed that he has not been approached by anyone at Liverpool to discuss an extension to his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
Salah excelled in the 3-0 dismantling of Manchester United — providing two assists and scoring once — but then conceded that it could have been his last game at Old Trafford for Liverpool.
The 32-year-old is one of three high-profile players whose deals expire at the end of the campaign, along with the club captain, Virgil van Dijk, and vice-captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
It is a subplot that is threatening to overshadow Liverpool’s season, with Van Dijk having recently confirmed that no offer had been tabled to him either.
Speaking to Sky Sports after a win that continued a perfect start to the season for their new head coach, Arne Slot, Salah said: “I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive, because as you know it’s my last year at the club.
“I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it. I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”
Asked whether it could be his last Liverpool appearance at Old Trafford, Salah continued: “I was coming to the game today thinking it could be the last time.
“Nobody at the club has spoken to me yet about a new contract, so I just play this last season and then see at the end of the season.”

The Sky pundit Roy Keane cheekily asked whether Salah could play there for United, with the Egyptian adding: “So far, we don’t know with which club, but so far, yeah, my last game here with Liverpool. It’s not up to me, but nobody talked to me about a contract with the club. We’ll see.”
Salah has not at any point indicated he wants to leave Liverpool, and has responded well to Slot’s arrival.
United would be glad to see the back of him, with his effort in the victory his 15th in 16 games against them.
Slot was asked about how difficult replacing Salah would be should the unthinkable transpire, but he has inherited a scenario which was also allowed to slide before the appointment of Richard Hughes as sporting director in the summer.
“There are a lot of ‘ifs’ [in that question] but at this moment he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well.
“I don’t talk about contracts. He was impressive, like the first two games, but if you talk about an individual, you don’t do justice to the other ones.
“All the attention goes to Mo and Lucho [Díaz] but that doesn’t do justice to the other nine and the ones who came in.”
