Vir Das on meeting with devoted fan: I just felt immensely proud of them

Comedian Vir Das recently shared a touching story about a fan who fulfilled her long-standing dream of attending one of his live performances. The fan, a psychology student from Vadodara, Gujarat, had messaged Das over two years ago during his Wanted tour, expressing her wish to attend a show but revealing she was unable to afford it at the time.
In a post on X, Vir recounted the moment his team showed him the fan’s message. “A sweet kid from Vadodara wrote to me two and a half years ago about how one day, when they would begin earning, they would come see me. And then they actually did and bought tickets in Toronto (sic),” Das wrote.
Vir wrote how he was moved by her determination, and that his team reached out to offer free tickets and premium seats, but the fan politely declined, insisting on paying for her own ticket. Impressed by her self-respect and independence, Vir ensured they met in person at the show. He gifted her a cake and received a diary in return.
Das shared, “This kid who is studying psychology, self-earning, self-respecting, making her parents proud, is as worried about showing up empty-handed as I am. We met, and I just walked away so reassured for the future (sic).”
“Every audience member has a story. They’ve saved, driven, travelled, gotten babysitters, sacrificed other options, been through a lot to be in the room the night I arrive in their city. It’s why I try and make it about them,” Vir added.
Vir is set to host his first Mindfool tour in Toronto on December 1. Fans can attend one of two shows scheduled at 4 pm and 7 pm, both taking place at Meridian Hall. His next performance will be on December 4 in Dublin, followed by the final show in London on December 6 at Union Chapel, where he will hold two sessions — one at 6 pm and another at 9 pm.
